Reading and mathematical literacy are among the key competencies of adults, which are important for personal development and employment in society. The adult population with a low level of basic skills is exposed to a higher risk of unemployment, a higher incidence of poverty and social exclusion, and higher health risks. The indicator can detect a problem in this area and thus help set an education policy if needed. |
