Relevance/rationale of the indicator (resp. why the indicator was chosen to measure the target and how it is suitable for these purposes) |
Pre-primary education is increasingly in the focus of the education policies of developed and developing countries – research clearly shows that pre-primary education has a unique potential to balance the chances of children from less stimulating family backgrounds for school success, which determines their subsequent work and life. |

Core data are collected by the international standardized data collection in education organized by Eurostat, OECD and UNESCO UIS (UOE Data Collection). In the Czech Republic, these data are not collected directly. Age of children in pre-primary education is monitored as at 31. 8. of given year, and an age structure estimate as at 31. 12. of given year is made for the UOE Data Collection.
The indicator is calculated outside the Czech Republic – data are not available by gender.
Values of the indicator for 5-year-olds are available on the Eurostat website: Pupils in early childhood and primary education by education level and age – as % of corresponding age population [educ_uoe_enrp07].
Data are available from 1998 but indicator has never been published. |
