| Relevance/rationale of the indicator (resp. why the indicator was chosen to measure the target and how it is suitable for these purposes) | The indicator Proportion of permanent grassland shows, in contrast to the indicator Proportion of arable land, what part of agricultural land is used in a more extensive way, ie without the risk of erosion and with minimal inputs of fertilizers and pesticides. |
| Target value of the indicator and its evaluation | |
| Definition | The share of the area of permanent grasslands in the total area of the Agricultural Land Fund of the Czech Republic. Permanent grassland is land where grow grasses, used for obtaining hay or for grazing. Agricultural Land Fund, abbreviated as ZPF, is a legal term that includes utilised agricultural area and agricultural lands as well as land that is not currently cultivated. This includes, for example, arable land, vineyards, orchards, meadows or pastures, but also fish ponds, field roads, drainage ditches and other lands used for agricultural production. The Agricultural Land Fund is legally regulated by the Act on the Protection of ZPF No. 334/1992 Coll., which defines the Agricultural Land Fund as the basic natural wealth of the country, as an irreplaceable means of production enabling agricultural production and as one of the main components of the environment. In total, the Agricultural Land Fund of the Czech Republic covers 7.9 million hectares, which is just over half of the total area of the country. |
