Relevance/rationale of the indicator (resp. why the indicator was chosen to measure the target and how it is suitable for these purposes) |
Although European important species of plants and animals make up only a small part of the total number of biological species occurring in Czechia, on the other hand, it is the best mapped group allowing for international comparison. The value of the indicator indicates changes in populations, area extent and changes in habitats. |

|
Definition |
The indicator is the result of the evaluation of the status of European important species of animals and plants on the scale favorable status – insufficient status – unfavorable status – unknown status. It expresses the proportion of species found in each of the four states mentioned above. |

Comment |
The overall status of each evaluated species of plant or animal consists of 4 sub-parameters, namely the state of the area, population, habitat and future prospects. If any of the above parameters is evaluated as not favorable, the overall condition of the species is also evaluated as unfavorable (according to the so-called one out – all out principle). The status of the species is evaluated separately for the Pannonian (south-eastern Moravia) and continental (most of the territory of Czechia) biogeographical region. |
