| Definition | The information and communication technology sector (hereinafter referred to as ICT sector) is defined as a combination of economic activities producing products and providing services that are primarily designed to process, communicate and distribute information electronically, including its capture, storage, transmission and display. The ICT sector has been defined by the OECD through the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (ISIC Rev.4). The ICT industry includes the manufacture of computers, peripheral equipment, telecommunications equipment, consumer electronics and their components and parts, including electronic components, magnetic and optical media (data carriers). ICT services mainly include software publishing; development, customization and testing (programming) of software, databases or websites; planning and design of computer systems; management, operation and repair of IT systems and/or data processing equipment. Also included are activities related to data processing and the provision of infrastructure for hosting and accessing search and other web portals. |
