Relevance/rationale of the indicator (resp. why the indicator was chosen to measure the target and how it is suitable for these purposes) |
The tuberculosis incidence rate was selected as an indicator for measuring reductions in the number of cases of disease burden. |
Target value of the indicator and its evaluation |
The overall goal is to “End the global tuberculosis epidemic”, and correspondingly ambitious targets for reductions in tuberculosis deaths and cases are set for 2030 (80% reduction in incidence rate compared with the level of 2015) and 2035 (90% reduction in incidence rate), in the context of the SDGs. |

Data taken from the National Registry of Tuberculosis.1)In some previous years, it is possible to encounter data that differ by +- 0.1. This is mainly due to the different denominators (population sizes) used for the calculation.2)The given data are notification rates, more precisely, (they reflect what was reported). The real incidence is always slightly higher, and no one knows it exactly; only estimates are available, which may differ depending on the estimation methodology. The estimated difference is about 10–15%. |
